Rules
This association of tennis players was organized under the assumption that all players will conduct themselves in the spirit of goodwill and good sportsmanship. Should that ever change we can assure you that this organization will cease to exist. All players are expected to respond to any challenge promptly. If you are not available, players can then move on to the next opponent.
Joining the League
Currently, registration closes April 15th. All names are placed on the standing board. Thereafter anyone committing to join us will start on the bottom and work their way up from there. Play begins 12:01AM May 1st and closes September 30th at 11:59PM.
Match Play
Each player can challenge any other player in the league regardless of their current position to that player. However, you can only play the same player once per calendar month and have it count toward the league standings. We ask that both opponents bring an unopened can of new tennis balls to the match. The winner of the match gets the unopened can as their trophy.
Scoring
Given this is a competitive league, all players are expected to understand the typical rules for keeping score of a tennis match. Play shall consist of best-of-three sets, with a seven-point tie-break deciding any set tied at 6-6. If both players agree at the beginning of the match, the third set may be played as a ten-point tie-break to decide the match winner. Players report their results to the web portal promptly after the completion of the match so the standing may be updated accordingly.
Standings
Any properly recorded win will add two points to your total. Your opponent will receive one point.
Disputes
Again, in the spirit of good sportsmanship, all players are expected to make all line calls fairly on their side of the net. Any unresolved disputes or inappropriate behavior should be immediately reported to Noah Morton. Any infractions will be handled accordingly.
Winning the League
The player with the most points at September 30th, 11:59PM is the current year winner of the League. In the event that two or more players end the season tied for points, the following criteria will be used to determine the winner.
Tiebreaker Criteria
Ties between players are always broken under the method shown below. In the event that multiple players are tied, the tiebreaking criteria are applied in order until one player has definitively separated themselves ahead of the others or behind them. At that point, the placement of that player is determined and the appropriate tiebreaking criteria begin again from the beginning.
Two-player ties: If two players find themselves tied on points, the following tiebreaking criteria are applied:
- Players are ranked based on the number of countable matches played.
- Players are ranked based on the head-to-head record in the match played between the two players.
Multiple-player ties: If more than two players are tied on points, the following tiebreaking criteria are applied:
- Players are ranked based on the number of countable matches played.
- Players are ranked based on the head-to-head record amongst the tied players only.
- Players are ranked based on the fewest number of sets lost in matches played amongst the tied players only.
- Players are ranked based on the fewest number of games lost in matches played amongst the tied players only.
- Players are ranked based on the fewest number of sets lost in all matches played.
- Players are ranked based on the fewest number of games lost in all matches played.
If any ties can still not be broken using the rules listed above, then the League Administrator will utilize an appropriate method of determining which player(s) is/are considered winner(s) of the tie.
Any questions should be directed to Noah Morton.
